Morning Session - Rectal Cancer (9:00)

  • Moderators: Lect. Dr. Claudia Militaru, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cosmin Caraiani

9:00-9:20: Importance of Imaging in Rectal Cancer - Oncologist's Perspective. Recommended imaging techniques and timing. What are the ESMO guidelines/protocols? Complementary roles of CT and MRI. Is there a role for transrectal ultrasound/endoscopic ultrasound? When to recommend PET-CT? When to operate and when to consider alternative therapies? Watchful waiting. Presentation by an oncologist (Lect. Dr. Claudia Militaru).

9:20-9:30: Rectal MRI – how is it done in practice – Radiologist Ioan Turos

9:30-10:00: MRI in Local Staging of Rectal Cancer. How to write a rectal MRI report (40 min) - Radiologist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cosmin Caraiani

10:00-10:30: Computed Tomography in Rectal Cancer. Initial staging and follow-up examinations. RE-CIST 1.1 criteria. Incidentaloma risk (Asst. Prof. Dr. Bianca Boca)

11:00-11:30 Rectal Cancer- Radiation Oncologist's Perspective. What information do I need from the radiologist (written report and MRI images)? How do I establish my radiation field? Presentation by a radiation oncologist (Asst. Prof. Dr. Renata Zahu).

11:30-12:00: Re-staging rectal cancer with MRI after Neoadjuvant Therapy. Detection of local recurrence by MRI (post-surgical and in watchful waiting protocols). Presentation by a radiologist (Prof. Dr. Andras Palko).

12:00-12:30: Rectal Cancer - Surgeon's Perspective. Total mesorectal excision in rectal cancer. What information do I need from the radiologist? Is metastatic rectal cancer always inoperable? (Lect. Dr. Adrian Bartoș)

12:30-13:30: Case Presentations - Cases from my workstation. Cases presented by a radiologist in DICOM format, later commented on by a radiologist, nuclear medicine physician, radiation oncologist, oncologist, and surgeon. Cases are known in advance by participants.

15:30-16:00: Cervical and Endometrial Cancer - Radiation Oncologist's Perspective. What information do I need from the radiologist (written report and MRI images)? When to perform external radiotherapy and when to choose brachytherapy? How to establish my radiation field? Presentation by a radiation oncologist Dr. Alexandru Iacob

Protocols will be presented based on clinical situations (initial staging, restaging, examinations performed after surgical procedures).
